Guitar Camp

Using a hands-on approach, and various styles including rock, pop, blues, folk, country, and jazz, the following topics will be covered over the week:

  • Introduction to the guitar - history of the guitar, types of guitars, parts of the guitar, tuning
  • The strings and the frets - finding notes on the guitar
  • Introduction to theory and reading music in order to play simple melodies
  • Playing chords and chord progressions
  • Strumming and picking patterns
  • Playing in ensembles (with other musicians)
  • Introduction to improvisation
  • "Inner Blance" training program

Campers must bring their own guitar to camp:

  1. An acoustic guitar (either steel string or nylon)   OR
  2. An electric guitar (with a small amp)   OR
  3. A bass guitar with a small amp (amps will not be provided)
